Toolkit sustainability lifestyles
New: a toolkit full of valuable insights and practical tools for anyone who wants to understand and promote sustainable behaviour during a holiday in the Netherlands.
In collaboration with Bureau BUITEN, Bureau for Space & Leisure, and Ginder, Insiders is pleased to announce the launch of a new Lifestyle Finder toolkit for sustainability in leisure. This toolkit provides valuable insights and practical tools for anyone who wants to understand and promote sustainable behaviour while on holiday in the Netherlands. Together, we are striving for a more sustainable leisure sector!
"The toolkit is a valuable tool for policymakers, stakeholders in the tourism and leisure sector, and other stakeholders striving for a sustainable approach to recreation and tourism."
The growing awareness of sustainability
With growing awareness of sustainability and environmental impact, it is crucial for stakeholders in the leisure economy to understand how different target groups approach sustainability during their holidays in the Netherlands. The toolkit provides answers to key questions such as: How sustainably do the lifestyles of the Leefstijlvinder behave? What are their motivations and preferences? And how can they be encouraged to make more sustainable choices?
Behaviours, values and needs of 7 recreational lifestyles
Based on the Leefstijlvinder, developed by MarketResponse, this toolkit offers a detailed insight into the behaviours, values and needs of holidaymakers and tourists. The seven lifestyles - Adventure seeker, Fun seeker, Harmony seeker, Connection seeker, Rest seeker, Insight seeker and Style seeker - are thoroughly analysed to understand their approach to sustainability during holidays in the Netherlands.
Sustainable choices before and during a holiday
The toolkit offers an in-depth analysis of sustainable behaviour through the lens of recreational lifestyles. It offers tools to answer these questions.
How sustainably do your visitors behave?
What do they look out for?
Why do they choose – or not choose – sustainable (or more sustainable) options?
And how can they be encouraged to adopt more sustainable behaviour?
The research goes beyond sustainable behaviour on site and also highlights sustainable choices made prior to a trip or activity, such as accommodation choices, transport modes and dining options. Although the focus is on holidays in the Netherlands, the toolkit also provides insights into sustainable behaviour in everyday life such as home sustainability, energy, gas and water consumption and transport.
Some figures from the survey highlighted:
- 55% of Adventure seekers would like to make sustainable choices more often or much more often.
- 61% of Harmony seekers would make more sustainable choices if sustainable alternatives became cheaper.
- 50% of Style seekers value a lot or very much.
- 73% of the Rustzoekers deliberately avoided crowded places once or several times during their last holiday stay in the Netherlands.
